Staff Spotlight: Jo, Marketing Executive / Vibe Curator / Chief Storyteller

I never officially trained for a role in marketing (I took the English and art route when studying). But marketing was something I naturally gravitated toward, I guess I love the creativity and connection. Since my teens, I’ve worked with local events, small businesses, charity initiatives, and shows. I’ve always loved taking something I’m passionate about and watching it grow into something others really enjoy too.

A Shift in Direction

For a long time, I found myself in general roles for businesses I valued, but it was never really what I wanted to do. Then, a few years ago, I had the chance to take redundancy, so I decided to start a new journey and go back to my creative roots as an artist. It was the first time I had been self-employed and, to be honest, it was a little daunting. And then the pandemic hit.

Discovering Attic Brew Co.

During this time I had been working some bar shifts at Attic Brew Co., a small independent craft brewery based in the popular neighbourhood, Stirchley. Bar work was completely new to me, but I really wanted to work with this team. They were inclusive, welcoming and I really loved their beer. Whilst some things have come a long way since they first opened in 2018, it has always been obvious they have a great product and they really care about their customers and local community.

Growing with the Business

As time went on and we figured our way through various challenges, I took on different roles within the business. First in production and logistics, then sales and eventually into marketing. We were all prepared to help each other out when needed and I really wanted to tell people how great the beer is.

Why Marketing for a Small Business Matters

What makes marketing for a small business like Attic so special for me is the direct impact you can see. Everything you do has meaning and purpose. It’s exciting to be part of a hands-on team where every idea and initiative matters. Beyond that, there’s the connection to our customers and community.

Building Relationships with Customers and the Community

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is engaging with people - whether it’s chatting about upcoming events, supporting local charities, collaborating with other local businesses, or simply listening to feedback. It’s not just about selling beer; it’s about creating an experience from start to finish. We want customers to feel like they’re part of something bigger - a journey that values their individuality and experiences as much as it values quality.

Keeping Things Fun and Authentic

At Attic, we’ve always kept things light and fun, and our marketing reflects that vibe. From social media to advertising, every campaign is designed to share not just the product but the personality of our brand. Our mission isn’t just to craft exceptional beer but to make every interaction - online, at our events, or in our bars - a memorable one.

A Rewarding Adventure

This is a real adventure and I’m proud to be part of a team that cares deeply about people, creativity, and community. Watching this business grow and being part of its story is an experience I’ll always love.
